Celexa is an antidepressant used to treat the symptoms of major depression, such as insomnia, excessive sleeping, slowdown in movement, feeling of worthlessness, change in appetite, change in weight, trouble concentrating, and suicidal thoughts. If you are going to give Celexa to a child or adolescent suffering from depression you should balance the risk with the clinical need, as antidepressants have been reported to cause suicidal thoughts in patients younger than 18. The effect of this medicine on people younger than 18 has not been studied.

The patients and their doctors have to be very observant during the first several weeks of treatment. During this period new symptoms may appear and there is a higher risk of suicidal thinking. The condition of such patients needs to be monitored by the doctor regularly to prevent problems. Do not combine this medicine with any other drugs unless advised so by your health care provider. You need to be especially careful about combining Celexa with fluconazole, erythromycin, itraconazole, metoprorol, omeprazole, lithium, cimetidine, and carbamazepine, warfarin and other anidepressants. Do not stop taking Celexa abruptly without your doctor’s consent.
